Inspiredu | Georgia Cy Pres Recipient for Class Action Settlements

2025 Impact Excerpt

Organization Overview

Inspiredu is a Georgia-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to closing the digital divide by equipping individuals and families with the technology access and digital skills necessary to participate fully in today’s economy. Inspiredu provides digital literacy training, device distribution, and broadband access to underserved communities across Georgia.

Mission Alignment with Cy Pres Standards

Under the cy pres doctrine, residual settlement funds should be directed to organizations whose work reasonably matches the interests of the class and the underlying claims. Inspiredu is an appropriate cy pres recipient in cases involving technology access, digital services, consumer protection, financial services, telecommunications, data privacy, and online platforms.

Inspiredu’s programs directly address systemic digital inequities that often form the backdrop of class actions involving:

  • Broadband and telecommunications services

  • Consumer technology and software

  • Data privacy and cybersecurity

  • Online financial services and financial technology platforms

  • Educational technology

By increasing digital literacy, expanding access to secure devices, and promoting responsible technology use, Inspiredu advances the same consumer protection and access principles that underlie many technology-related class actions.

Programmatic Impact

Inspiredu’s core initiatives include:

  • Adult Digital Literacy Workshops

  • Family Learning Workshops

  • Device distribution (refurbished laptops)

  • Digital financial literacy programming

  • Workforce-focused digital skill development

Participants acquire practical skills in essential computer software, cybersecurity awareness, digital financial management, and safe navigation of internet-based services.

Community Served

Inspiredu serves low-to-moderate income communities, including families, adult learners, seniors, and individuals. Many participants are disproportionately affected by digital inequities and online consumer scams or predatory practices. Cy pres funds would directly support programs benefiting these communities.

Accountability & Stewardship

As a nonprofit organization, Inspiredu maintains financial oversight, program tracking, and measurable impact reporting. Funds received through cy pres distributions would be deployed toward expanding digital access initiatives, increasing device distribution, and enhancing consumer-focused digital education programming.

Conclusion

Inspiredu satisfies the legal and practical criteria for cy pres eligibility by:

  • Demonstrating a clear nexus between its mission and technology-related class claims

  • Serving populations closely aligned with affected consumer classes

  • Providing measurable, mission-driven impact

  • Ensuring responsible stewardship of funds
